Make Germany Your Family's Home.
Bringing your spouse and children is a right, but you must meet the financial and housing standards first.

Who Can You Bring?
If you hold an EU Blue Card, a Work Permit, or a Permanent Residence permit, you are generally eligible to sponsor your immediate family members.
Spouse
Legally married partner (civil partners recognized in some cases).
Children
Unmarried minors under 18 years old.
Important: Opportunity Card Holders
If you are on the Opportunity Card, you cannot bring your family immediately. You must secure a job and convert to a work permit first.
The Requirements
Germany is strict about 'Financial Self-Sufficiency.' To approve your family's visa, the government ensures you will not need social welfare benefits.
Income Proof
Your net salary must cover rent + health insurance + living costs for all family members.
Housing Size
You must prove you have a "Sufficient Living Space" (usually 12 sqm per adult and 10 sqm per child). You cannot bring a family of 4 into a studio apartment.
Health Insurance
You must provide insurance coverage for the entire family.
Spousal Rights & Language
Your spouse becomes a valuable part of the German workforce.
Work Rights
Spouses of Blue Card holders have immediate, unrestricted right to work in Germany. They can work in any field or be self-employed.
Language Requirement
For Blue Card holders:The spouse does not need to prove German skills before arriving.
For Standard Work Permit holders:The spouse generally needs German A1 certificate before applying.
Children & Schooling
Mandatory Schooling
School is mandatory (Schulpflicht) for all children in Germany aged 6–15. Public schools are free and high quality.
